In its efforts to improve on the fight against corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken sensitization messages on the fight against corruption, with a call on Nigerian youths to take the anti graft war crusade.
Usman Imam, the Head of the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the EFCC during the sensitization walk with the theme “Nigerian Youth Walk Against Corruption” on February 14,2020 said the youths being a critical demographic needed to join the fighting arm of the anti-corruption army so as to secure their future.
His words: “Young people must be in the vanguard of the fight against corruption because their future depends on it. It is no longer safe for the youths to be bystanders or allow themselves to be co-opted as accomplices by the decadent ruling clite plundering our commonwealth for personal enrichment”.
He admonished Nigerian youths to shun criminality and strive to wrestle the country from the grips of the corrupt, while appealing to the youths to take ownership of the anti-graft war.
The zonal head also urged civil society organizations, market men and women, labour unions and religious organizations to ensure all hands are on deck in other to fight the trending menace called corruption adding that no one must be left behind while further stressing that it is a collective responsibility to take the country out of the woods.
“We must resolve, like never before, to expose any unpatriotic deeds that can further drag Nigeria into disrepute”, he said.
Representatives of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the civil society in their separate speeches stressing on the need for all and sundry to join in the fight against corruption.
However, the programme was held across the 36 states and the Federal capital territory with a common message to the youths to shun criminality and other social vices for the country to be a better place.
The walk kicked off from the EFCC office at Old GRA to Mile 1 market and back to EFCC office with banners with several anti-corruption messages while flyers were also distributed to members of the public.
