I’ve Nothing To Apologize For – David West

Accused serial killer, Gracious David West, told a Port-Harcourt High Court he has nothing to apologize for as he did not kill anyone.

As a result, he said he does not need any opportunity to apologize to the public for whatever he allegedly did since he has no hand in the death of women allegedly killed in hotels.

David West was giving evidence on Friday February 28 led in evidence-in-chief by  counsel Vincent Chuku as he told the court presided by Honourable Justice Adolphus Enebeli he was innocent of the charges against him.

Speaking from a witness box, David West had alleged  he was forced by SARS operatives to go to hotels they took him to, alleging he never led them to  hotels visited.

He said that he visited eight hotels with SARS operatives.

David West also said he did not lodge in any of the hotels visited neither did he show any SARS operatives hotel rooms he had stayed in. He said it was the receptionists at the hotels who showed the SARS operatives rooms he allegedly stayed in.

Friday’s hearing was for continuation of defence where David West had said how he was arrested and what happened from then to when he was brought to court.

He faces allegation of allegedly murdering women last year in hotels in Port- Harcourt and other cities in Nigeria.

He said at the cross-examination by prosecuting counsel, Chidi Ekeh, he had nothing to apologize for and totally denied ever killing any woman.

He said SARS operatives took him from one hotel to another saying  they visited a total of eight hotels.

The prosecution had started a line of questioning on why David West pleaded guilty and then not guilty to the charges against him, but he said he did not know what the court was doing.

At some point in the cross-examination, the presiding judge, Honourable Justice Adolphus Enebeli, adjourned the case to 23rd and 27th March and 2nd and 3rd April for continuation of cross-examination.

David West is facing prosecution for allegedly murdering women last year in hotels in Port-Harcourt and other cities in Nigeria. He faces nine counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

He had pleaded guilty to the nine counts of murder and not guilty to the one count of attempted murder, but retracted and said that he was not guilty of the charges.

David West who is the first accused in the trial showed confidence and joviality in court on Friday.

The second accused, Mrs ThankGod Nimi, who was also in the court on Friday, faces a charge of misconduct with corpse. She’s yet to give evidence and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

At Friday’s hearing, counsel to second accused, Lezina Amegua, said he had no question for cross-examination of the first accused as he finished giving evidence.

Counsel to David West, Vincent Chuku, said in a recent interview David West could have been in “different temperament of mind” when he pleaded guilty and then not guilty to the charges against him, but said whether he pleaded guilty or not was not before the court any longer, because the prosecution amended their charge.
