CAN Prays Against COVID-19 Pandemic
…Calls On Multi-Nationals To Support Government Efforts
The Rivers State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has prayed against the forces behind the conovirus pandemic which it says is spiritual.
Speaking to newsmen at its secretariat over the weekend during the Association’s April monthly prayer session, the CAN chairman, Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa said since Christian warfare is not canal, Christian would fight the pandemic spiritually to a halt.
He explained that already CAN had devoted every first Thursday of the month as fasting and prayer for the peace, sanity, good governance of the state as well as the unity of the churches but had to concentrate on the common enemy this month to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Rivers State CAN was the first to declare prayers for the pandemic last month. According to him, “God heard our prayer not only in retarding the spread of the decease after the index case but assisting the doctors in saving lives”, he declared.
Apostle Dimkpa used the opportunity to commend the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for taking proactive actions against the COVID-19 spread and appealed to the church leaders entire citizens to adhere to all the precautionary measures of the government for them to stay alive.
He assured that in a little while, the scourge will be over, urging the people to persevere while it lasts, quoting Psalm 91:3 that the disease will never infect more person in the State. He called on the citizens to use the opportunity of the lock down to draw near to God and make peace with him.
CAN thanked Governor Wike for paying the March, 2020 salary to workers but further appealed to him as a listening governor to urgently consider palliative measurers for majority of the people who are obeying the sit-at-home directives, most of whom he noted, are living from hand to mouth, “From the small available resources, we appeal that the state governor should help the people ease the hardship they are facing in order for them to survive”, he said.
The CAN chairman equally urged the national and multi-national companies in the state to support the government to provide for the people. That such support is already going on in other states and at the federal level.
He also appealed to the churches to support their congregation at this time with whatever palliative at their disposal.
“The congregation has been making all kinds of sacrifices and contributions for the growth of the church and now is the time to support them too.”
The chairman assured that CAN is standing in the gap for the Christians in particular and Nigerians in general, insisting that God will take care of His people, praying that OVID-19 or any other deceases will have no access to their bodies.
Highlight of the meeting was the prayer session which took care of all the prayer points released for the good of the nation. The members also jointly prayed and anointed Apostle Dimkpa for the consolidation of his exalted seat and success of his reign.
In their various responses at the end of the prayer session, some men and women of God commened.
Deacon Akuro Parker of the Winners Chapel who also runs the Saviors’ International Mission, Port Harcourt said God is crying as a result of the way mankind are oppressing each other hence the pandemic.
Prophetess Titilayo Eyinju of the Mount Zion Evangelical Ministries, Port Harcourt who also is the coordinator of CAN prayer committee said because the people God have prayed, there is going to be a turnaround of events, especially on the pandemic, adding that they are confident. Bishop (Dr.) Steven King (JP) of the Royal Winners Church, Port Harcourt said the prayer session is a welcome development, adding that God wants to prove a point to His glory with the situation.
Prophet (Dr) Lawrence Nwachukwu of the Counsellors Prophetic Ministries International, Port Harcourt said because mankind have derailed in many ways, many more decease are coming as the world is in the perilous age.
He however assured that with prayers which is Christian warfare, the people will conquer.
