Covid-19: AWELGA Boss Sets Up 21-Man Committees

…Tasks Councillors On Leadership

The Executive Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hon (Evang.) Hope Ikiriko has inaugurated a 21-man committee charged with the dispensation of palliatives to people and purchase of foodstuffs from farmers and fishermen from the area.

Performing the inauguration at the Council Headquarters at Akinima over the weekend, Ikiriko charged the committee members to be fair and just in the discharge of their duties, segmenting the committees into two, namely the Covid-19 Central Committee and Covid-19 Committee to Purchase foodstuffs from farmers and fishermen from the LGA.

Reminding the committee members that their selection was not based on their political, ethnic or religious affiliations, the AWELGA boss urged that people of the area must be given a sense of belonging in the scheme of things.

Hon Ikiriko who also addressed the elected Councilors who are in the committees, appealed to them  to see their new tasks as an opportunity to serve members of their respective Wards.

“You must see your membership of these committees as a privilege and not an opportunity to do business.  It is for you to show quality leadership and endear yourselves to the people”, he emphasized.

Giving his charge to the Purchasing Committees, the Chairman said: “Go to the grassroots and make sure you buy all the goods the farmers and fishermen have produced.  Although the farmers and fishermen are not the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic, you must reach out to them and buy their produce.  It is only when we know that the chain of supply in our LGA or state is not enough, then we can begin to go outside to buy”.

He reiterated that the assignment of the two committees is crucial as the state governor is passionate about the palliative measures and relief materials for the vulnerable groups in the state.

Ikiriko promised that the council would build a warehouse where food could be stored and gave assurance he had no doubt that all members of the committees have the capacity to do a good job.

In her response, Chairman of the Covid-19 Central Committee and Vice Chairman of AWELGA, Hon. Ubule Jack assured that members of the committees would discharge their duties without fear or favour.

She commended the Council Chairman for the proactive approach taken to stop people from other states from crossing the Mbiama border into the state, and described him as a hardworking Chairman who should be emulated by others.

On his part, Chairman of the Covid-19 Committee for purchase of foodstuffs, Hon. Ezekiel Agri reiterated the readiness of his committee to do their best to ensure that the objectives of the Executive Chairman as well as the Executive Governor of the State are met.

“As a two time Caretaker Chairman of this LGA, there is no village I don’t know. Therefore, every village in AWELGA will benefit from our committee. None will be sidelined”, he assured.
