Oyigbo Council Chairman Applauds Gov Wike ‘s Efforts To Contain COVID-19

Rivers State COVID-19 Palliative Committee ably led by the Ambassador Desmond Akawor, has distributed palliative materials to the less privileged people in Oyigbo Local Government Area to cushion the effects of COVID-19 in the LGA.

Speaking during the distribution at the Council Secretariat in Okoloma Afam, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, stated that the palliative items are provided for the less privileged people of the LGA, irrespective of their political affiliation.

He reiterated that as directed by the Governor, each Ward in the State is allocated: 100 bags of rice, 1000 tubers of yam, 100 bags of rice, 100 cartons of noodles and 5 (25L) gallons of Palm oil.

In furtherance, he appealed for the five(5) selected representatives(including clergy men) across the respective Wards to ensure the foods are shared accordingly and equitably, and cautioned that the distribution should not be politicised.

He further assured the people of Oyigbo that the Wike Led administration will continue to fight the scourge while urging them to abide by preventive measures established by WHO and NCDC.

Hon Prince Gerald Oforji JP , Executive Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government expressed immense appreciation to the Governor for cushioning the painful impact of novel Pandemic on the people by providing palliatives to the 23 Local Government of the State.

Speaking with journalists, Hon. Prince Gerald Oforji JP, applauded Governor Wike for proactively tackling COVID-19 and commended him for the food items, “this is a clear demonstration and expression of love by His Excellency to Oyigbo people and the entire people of Rivers State, I call him a pacesetter”, the council chairman added.

Hon. Gerald Oforji also charged the Ward distribution committees to ensure that no section of the Local Government Area is left out in the sharing process and advised the people of the LGA to continuously obey all government instructions through out this period.

Present to witness the distribution were: Councillors, Youths, Women, Non-indigenes, Clergymen among others.

The Ward Distribution Committee Members consist of a Chief, CDC Chairman, Woman Leader, Councillor and a Clergy from the ward.
