Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says when completed the Mother and Child Hospital would serve as a centre of excellence in maternal and child health care delivery.
Dr. Banigo stated this in a good will message from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 4th May, 2021 to commemorate the 2021, International Midwives Day.
According to the Deputy Governor, Midwifery is a very important component of the health system, adding that midwives saves millions of lives across the globe each year.
Dr. Banigo said as part of deliberate strategy to promote safe motherhood, the Nyesom Ezenwo led Administration ensures that pregnant women who visit health centres four times for their ante natal, in the course of their pregnancy are given free delivery.
She also said free routine drugs are provided for those who attend ante- natal clinics in Government health facilities, stressing that ante natal clinics runs for 24 hours with trained midwives for improved service delivery.
It would be recalled that the 5th of May each year is set aside to celebrate International Midwives Day.
The theme for this year is “Follow the Data Invest In Midwives”.
