Gov Wike Is Promise Keeper – Amanyanabo Of Abonnema
The Amanyanabo of Abonnema Kingdom, HM King (Barr.) Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel (ii), KSC, Ekineye Gbobo, OWUKORI (IX), has extolled the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, describing him as a promise-keeper.
The Amanyanabo made the commendation in Abonnema recently, when the governor in fulfilment of his promise to assist victims of the 2019 Presidential Election violence in Abonnema, released the sum of N450million (Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) support fund to assist families who lost loved ones, and other victims of the 2019 Presidential Election Day mayhem.
The monarch while thanking the Governor for his kindness and keeping to his promises to the victims, said the assistance will enable the affected families and persons, most of whom lost breadwinners and whose means of livelihood were destroyed, to get their lives back on track.
The Amanyanabo recalled how the Community requested for some key projects like the Abonnema/Obonoma Bridge, renovation of the Nyemoni Grammar School (NGS), rehabilitation of the General Hospital and construction of the Phase 2 of the Abonnema Ring Road, which the governor graciously executed and completed in record time.
Addressing some of the beneficiaries who were physically present, the First-Class Traditional Ruler urged them to use the money wisely by investing it in profitable ventures to take care of their families, rather than in frivolities.
He thanked the Deputy Governor and her Committee for the work they had done, assuring that the traditional institution in the area would give them all necessary support to ensure the exercise was hitch-free.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, who represented the State governor, apprised that the move was the governor’s little way of showing solidarity with the people, who went through harrowing experiences, which ultimately led to the death of 37 young men, several others wounded and properties worth millions damaged.
Dr. Danagogo stated that the governor upon receiving the report of the Committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, approved the release of the said sum as a token to assist the victims and their families, in fulfilment of his promise during the memorial service organized by the Amanyanabo of Abonnema and his council of chiefs to mourn the dead and rededicate the community to God.
On his part, the Chairman of Akuku-Toru LGA, Hon. Rowland Sekibo, while lauding the governor for his magnanimity, maintained that the confidence reposed on him by the people of Akuku-Toru, during the 2015 and 2019 elections was not in vain.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the gesture thanked the governor for supporting them, especially the families that lost their breadwinners, assuring him that they would properly utilise the money.
They equally thanked the Amanyanabo of Abonnema for all his efforts at maintaining peace within his domain, especially for convoking the Akuku-Toru Peace and Security Conference after the crisis, to ensure that such incident does not reoccur in the future.
