FCE(T), Omoku Loses  Property To Windstorm

…Provost Cries Out

Properties worth millions of naira were on Friday June 5th2020 destroyed by a windstorm that accompanied a heavy rainfall and thunder in Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The hurricane fierce rainfall which lasted over an hour wreaked havoc in the institution and destroyed major properties situated at bothCampuses I and II of the College.

The visibly angry Provost of the College, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri who conducted some management staff of the College round the affected areas on Saturday 06/06/2020 stated that among the properties deroofed by the windstorm were students lecture halls, workshops, Laboratories, School farms and Staff offices in the school of Business Education, Technical Education, Science Education, Vocational Education, Degree Unit, Centre for Educational Technology, EntrepreneurshipBuilding, Sports Unit Administrative Building among other departments.

Also affected by the Windstorm were the College Game Village, Fences, Electrical Poles and some on-going construction buildings.

Dr. Ikenyiri who thanked God that no life was lost as staff and students were on break due to the COVID 19 Pandemic further described the incident as worrisome, pathetic and unfortunate disaster that had never been experienced in the College for over Three(3) decades of its existence apart from the 2012 flood.

He therefore appealed to Government at all levels, Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) Limited, Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and other multinational and well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of the college at this trying period as destructions will affect academic and administrative works when schools re-open.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the College. Prince Charles Amadike-Otoboh, JP, said apart from the havoc the Windstorm caused in his College, over 20buildings and 50 High- and Low-tension poles and over 100 palm trees and other economic trees were also destroyed by the hurricane wind at Omoku and Obrikom Communities and its environments thereby putting the area in total darkness.
