Proliferation, Unauthorized Borehole Drilling Unacceptable – Commissioner

For those in the business of borehole drilling and sachet water production, the end has come to proliferation of their businesses in the state as the Rivers State government has insisted on registration of their businesses, in order to ensure safe and quality drinking water for the residents of the state.

Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr. Tamuno-sisigogo Jaja warned that defaulters will be prosecuted as many people have taken to borehole drilling without factoring the content of a drinkable water into their operations.

He called on borehole drillers to ensure the registration and certification of their business.

He also called on hoteliers, school owners and homes to take advantage of the on-going free online registration of their boreholes which has been declared free for a period of two months.

In similar vein, Chairman Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources and Rural Development, Oprinde Lolo has assured that law makers will give necessary support to help the government achieve safe drinking water.

He alleged that NAFDAC was responsible for registering some of the people engaged in the business and decried a situation whereby NAFDAC failed to respond to numerous letters written to it on the issue by his committee. He stated that NAFDAC failed to nominate its member to be part of the proposed task force to checkmate proliferation of borehole in the state.
