Hope For Environmental Technical University In Ogoni Heightens
The journey of one thousand miles ,they say starts with a step, against this backdrop, the lofty plan of getting a Federal University of Environmental Technology established in Saakpenwa, Ogoni axis of Rivers State may not be far from reality.
This is sequel to the presentation of a Memorandum for the establishment of the institution before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The presentation which was made by the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, on behalf of the Government of Rivers State is in compliance with the bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Environmental Technology in oil-rich Ogoniland in Rivers State as sponsored by the Senator representing Rivers South-East, Barinada Mpigi.
Meanwhile, Professor Ebeku, has said that the Covid-19 pandemic is not hampering ongoing school projects in the state.
He said despite the adverse impact of the pandemic, all school construction works are ongoing seamlessly in the state because of government’s commitment and will to deliver a new lease of life to the people.
“The action Governor of the state, Mr Projects, has made it clear that the restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic will not stop ongoing projects”, he said.
He also said that the State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, has warned contractors who collected mobilization money not to hide on COVID-19 restrictions and protocols to abandon their projects.
Professor Ebeku who expressed satisfaction with the speed and quality of work done so far in a brand new school by the contractor in charge of the project, Community Secondary School Obeakpu, Ndoki in Oyigbo Local Government Area, lauded the contractor for making good use of the resources made available to him.
He said that before the intervention by the state government the secondary school has been squatting in the main structure and premises of community primary school, Obeakpu.
