Ikokwu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Commend CP Mukan, Others

The Ikokwu Motor Spare Parts dealers have expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Joseph Mukan, the Civil Society Organisation, the media and indeed everyone who in one way or the other contributed in pressurizing the authorities in arraigning to court the suspected former “E-Crack Unit” of the police who allegedly tortured to death late Chima Ikwunado and injuring the other four victims in course of their investigation of the suspected crime against them.

Speaking with newsmen over the weekend, the chairman of the spare parts dealers, High Chief Anthony Alaribeole  said they were all happy with CP Mukan for keeping to his words to prosecute the said Police Officers who committed the crime and also to reposition and professionalize the force.

He however, posited that all the interested parties in the matter are surprised that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) of the matter, Inspector Samuel Nnodim Amadi and Head of the department, Inspector Benson Adetuji were not arraigned in court and would wish the duo join the other suspects by the next adjournment.

The chairman made it clear that his union only wants justice to be done in the  matter according to the constitutional provision of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a matter like this and nothing more or less.

He also said that they need the police and other security agents for that matter to perform their function with human face to reduce the frequent friction with the public.

“The law enforcement agents violate the peoples’ right in Nigeria everyday especially in Rivers State and I bet you by the time they do the right thing, the citizens are ready to work in synergy with them in the interest of the country,” he said.

He said the Ikokwu Motor Spare Parts dealers are very willing and ready to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion not only to get justice for the Ikokwu five but to protect its members from further undue harassment and molestation, especially from the law enforcement agents and other government taskforce agents.

On the relationship of the union and the Rivers State government, the chairman said it was very cordial.

He used the opportunity to thank the State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for considering their request to reopen their market after the long lock down of their shops  as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chief Alaribeole also stated that the directives by the Rivers State Government for the union to clear the Olu-Obasanjo dual carriage way especially the Ikokwu area of roadside mechanics is strictly adhered to.

“In fact, I am the head of that sanitation team monitoring compliance of the directives through my unit chairmen and the road is very free now,” he added.
