Police Re-Arrest Rapist Who Escaped From Detention Facility
One Friday Saviour who escaped from detention facility of Rumuokoro Police Station in Obi/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has been re-arrested by the Police, National Network has learned.
The suspect who was first arrested by the Police on allegation of raping a female victim had escaped two days after his arrest. We gathered that the Police acting on credible intelligence stormed where the suspect was hiding and re-arrested him.
Narrating how he and four others escaped from the detention facility of the Police, the said Saviour disclosed that the leader of their cell referred to as ‘ GOC’ informed them of his plans to escape from the Police custody few hours after his arrest and seek for their cooperation.
Mr Saviour revealed that on the day of their escape the GOC woke them up at about 2:30am and informed them that the padlock used in locking the cell is open.
According to him, when they came out from the cell, the Police officers at the canter were sleeping and they walked past the officers and escaped through the car park of the station.
He added that they were five in numbers who escaped from the cell .Information available to National Network indicates that only saviour has been re-arrested as at press time.
Insider source informed our reporter that the Police officers on duty o the day the suspects escaped will face disciplinary action for acts of negligence.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni was yet to respond to enquiry of our reporter into the incident.
