One Reported Killed In Khana Community As Police Foil Another Attack
Gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded Bere community in Khana local Government area of Rivers State last Saturday and reportedly killed one person, village sources disclosed.
A native of Bere community who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that suspected Icelander cult members stormed the village in search of rival cult members and in the process reportedly killed a Deygbam cult leader.
The source revealed that natives scampered for safety as the invading gang members shot sporadically before leaving the community after they reportedly shot their target.
Meanwhile report say security operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bori Divisional Police Headquarters foiled a planned attack on Duburo community a neighbouring village to Bere where gunmen had stationed to cause mayhem.
We gathered that acting on credible intelligence, the Police stormed the hideout of the hoodlums who took to their heels on sighting the Police.
The Chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) of Duburo community, Vincent Gbosi told our reporter on telephone that for the timely intervention of the Police, the gang members would have unleashed mayhem on the community.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Nnamdi Omoni was yet to respond to text messages sent to him by our reporter on the incident as at press time.
It would be recalled that cult war claimed three lives in Duburo community two months ago.
Meanwhile security operatives are said to be on red alert to forestall any breakdown of law and order as at time of filling this report.
