Expert Cautions Over Possible Spike In COVID-19 Cases In Rivers

As part of the ways to stem the spread of COVID-19 Pandemic in Rivers State and beyond, a medical expert has cautioned the public on the need to live conscious of the prevalence of coronavirus disease by constantly observing necessary protocols, warning that failure to do so may attract a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Dr. Paul Dienye, the chief consultant family physician, University of Port Harcourt dropped the warning as he noted that people appeared complacent in observing the established COVID-19 protocols, most especially in public places and others which might aggravate the situation on ground.

The medical expert condemned those who failed to wear recommended face masks, while maintaining that people should ensure a healthy lifestyle by always doing the right things.

Dr. Dienye also noted with disappointment that majority of people who were sick now avoid approaching the hospital to get necessary care and treatment. He reminded those who may have been gripped by the fear of the seriousness of coronavirus, currently ravaging countries world over to disabuse their mind from being overwhelmed by the terror virus, stating that COVID-19 “is not a death sentence.

According to him, people should report to the hospital on noticing anything that affects their well being, as well as make use of hospitals to take care of other health related issues”.

He said that the fight against COVID-19 pandemic requires a concerted effort by all. The medical expected warned market traders especially to ensure they put on their face masks and wear it properly as well as observe regular hand washing with the application of hand sanitizer.
