Diobu Residents Demand Arrest Of ‘Mami Water Barack’ Operator
Following the arrest of a suspected rapist at an uncompleted building known as ‘Mami Water Barrack’ at Ekwe Street in Mile 3, Diobu last week, residents of the area has called on security agencies to arrest the operators of the suspected hub of cultists.
The residents who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that suspected cultists perpetrate all kinds of evil in the uncompleted building ranging from initiation of new members, rape, sale of illicit drugs among others.
They stated that the existence of the ‘Mami Water Barrack’ poses great danger to the residences of the area.
Recall that a man in his mid 20s simply identified as Uche was caught by vigilante group allegedly raping a teenage girl at the place last week
The Chief Security Officer of Elechi Street, Godstime Ihunwo, told our reporter on telephone that residents at Ekwe Street noticed some young men dragging a lady inside an uncompleted building in the morning hours.
Mr. Ihunwo said the residents quickly alerted him of the development and sent his men to the place where the said Uche was allegedly caught perpetrating the crime.
Comrade Ihunwo disclosed that the Police officers attached to Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters, Mile 3 arrived the office of the vigilante group, took the suspect and the rescued teenage girl to their station.
When contacted the spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni said he is yet to get details on the incident and promised to get back to us when he gets detail from the DPO.
SP Omoni was yet to get back to us as at press time.
Our reporter gathered that the suspect has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
