Ichegbo Emerges NBA Chairman, Isiokpo Branch

…Pledges Transparent Leadership, Fairness To All

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Isiokpo Branch has elected Barrister Promise Uche Ichegbo as its new Chairman in an election adjudged peaceful, fair and transparent.  The election which held at the OCJ Bar Center, Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area on Saturday, also saw the election of Barrister Williams Irehovbude as Vice Chairman.

Others who formed the new executive are Barr. Kingsley Nyeche (Secretary); Jeremiah Igwe Esq. (Assistant Secretary); Chibuzor Chukwu Esq. (Financial Secretary); Barrister Eric William (Public Relations Officer) and Barrister Promise N. Okitche (Social Secretary).

Those who scored the highest votes to clinch the positions of Welfare Secretary, Legal Adviser and Provost were Barristers Lekara S. Kinanee; Ovodowhuo G. Eke and Kemjika Agba respectively.

Performing the swearing-in and inauguration exercise, a Solicitor, Barrister Ugwuadu Reginald expressed satisfaction with the exercise as it was carried out with international best practices and in line with Section 19 of the Bar constitution.

Ugwuadu who is of the Delaw Chambers, Partner and Notary Public, advised the new executives to uphold the position of the uniform law.  He further charged them to strive for high standards and give every member of the branch a sense of belonging.

On his part, the Chairman of the 2020 Electoral Committee of the Isiokpo NBA election, Barr. Dennis Okanmkpam, explained that both the candidates and the voters followed all the electoral processes such as the collection of election forms and screening exercises.

He hinted that a total of 45 persons cast their ballot for the candidate of their choice, saying that the result of the election was a reflection of the will of the people.

Speaking to journalists shortly after taking the oath of office, newly elected Chairman of the branch, Barrister Promise Uche Ichegbo said his top priority within the first 100 days in office would be the provision of socio-economic amenities as well as to unite all members of the branch.

He pledged to run an all-inclusive regime where transparency, equity and fairness would be his watch word.

His words: “In my first 100 days, we will pursue the provision of water supply at the Isiokpo Bar Center.  We will also build new infrastructure that will serve members of the branch.  Besides, I want to consolidate on the vision and mission of the founding fathers of the branch and above all, I want to unite all members of the branch and ensure that every member is given what is due him or her”.

He also pledged to hit the ground running by harnessing the abundant human and material resources in and outside the Isiokpo Bar with the grace of God with the hope the place would be turned around.

The new Chairman stressed that the road to his victory in the election was long and tortuous, noting that without the collective and tireless support of members, it would have remained a mirage.

Meanwhile, an active member and an Award-Winning Lawyer of the branch, Barrister Simple Dioha explained that the delay in the conduct and enthronement of the new executive of the branch was as a result of resistance, petitions and litigations by some members of the branch who felt that the right and proper things ought to have been done.

Highlight of the event was the establishment and appointment of the Isiokpo branch of Christian Lawyers Association of Nigeria (CLASFON) which will be headed by Hon. Cahmia Ofurum and to be assisted by Mrs. Emmanuella Agbor.
