Police Open Investigation Into Case Of Alleged Burglary, Missing Money Involving SARS Personnel, 2 Civilians
The State Criminal Investigation Department(SCID) Port Harcourt last week commenced investigation into the alleged burglary and missing money involving a personnel of Special Anti -Robbery (SARS) and two civilians National Network has gathered.
We learned the officer and the two civilians were transferred to State CID from Mile I Divisional Police headquarters.
We learned that the personnel of Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) and two civilians were initially detained one at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mile 1 Diobu Port Harcourt on allegations of burglary and missing money to the tune of 280,000 thousand naira..
We gathered that the SARS personnel simply identified as Inspector Usman had reportedly told a vigilante personnel at Nnewi Street, Mile 1 diobu, Port Harcourt to pay for drinks he(SARS) man drank at a restaurant and the vigilante official refused on the ground that both of them do not have prior agreement.
Our source disclosed that the refusal of the vigilante official to pay for drinks the SARS personnel drank led to serious exchange of words between both of them.
The source revealed that at about 2am last Thursday the SARS personnel who was on mufti allegedly went to where the vigilante man resides at Nnewi street with 2 of his civilian friends and broke into the vigilante man’s room but they met his absence.
The source stated the vigilante man reported the matter at Mile 1 Police station the next day and the SARS official in conjunction with two of his civilian friends were arrested last Friday and they are being detained at Mile 1 Police station our source disclosed.
The vigilante personnel confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our reporter.
He told our reporter that 280,000 naira tenants paid to him as care taker of the compound to give to his landlord went missing after his room was burgled by the SARS personnel and his friends.
He also said the suspects are being detained at Mile 1 Police station.
The vigilante personnel added that he is not interested in prosecuting the case but only want the SARS personnel to take responsibility for payment of the missing money and property that was destroyed in his room.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Superintendent of Police(SP) did not respond to repeated text messages sent to his mobile phone by our reporter neither did he pick calls put across to him.
