The New Wazobia Fruit and Vegetable Market and Slaughter has said that it has got a new General- Secretary and other elected officials to pilot affairs of the market union.
The market is located behind Agofure Park at Eleme Junction.
The Chairman of the New Wazobia Fruit and Vegetable Market and Slaughter, Chief Hon Hope Utchay, gave the name of the new secretary general as Dauda Bitrus Saleh, who took over from the former secretary, Dauda Lawan.
The chairman said that the union elected the new secretary general and the other officials at a meeting held in Port-Harcourt on Thursday, 24 September, saying that he had endorsed the election with his executive.
He said that the union had passed a vote of no confidence on the former Secretary-General, Dauda Lawan, former Sanitation Coordinator, Suleiman Maisaria and former Dinlalis (market sellers) Coordinator, Yusuf Dauda and other executives who had left the union.
Chief Utchay said that he wants peace, progress and understanding for the union and advised members of the public not to have anything to do with those who have left the union.
Chief Utchay said: “I want to tell the general public (that if) anybody has anything to do with Dauda in Wazobia should cancel it (because) he’s not a member of Wazobia. Sanitation and Dinlali Chairman all have left. They are not with us again and (the) general public should take note because new Wazobia have come to stay”.
He said that the new secretary-general was elected based on his active engagement in the affairs of the New Wazobia Fruit and Vegetable Market and Slaughter.
The new general- secretary, Dauda Bitrus Saleh, said that he became the secretary general after a vote of no confidence on the former secretary, Dauda Lawan.
Bitrus Saleh said that the union would work together as a team to achieve its aims saying that his emergence as the secretary -general was endorsed by the chairman and other executives.
He described the chairman as a man of integrity saying that he treats everyone alike in the union.
Other newly elected members of the market union include Mrs Ifeoma Nwankwo (Treasurer) who is also Chairlady, Mallam Garba Ruba (Dinlalis Coordinator), Mallam Babaliya Shuibu (Vice Coordinator) and Mr Friday Nwobodo (Dinlalis Secretary).
Others include Mallam Usman Abdullah (Sanitation Officer), Mallam Suleiman Yau (Assistant Sanitation Officer), Mr Joseph (Welfare Officer) and Mrs Confidence Abozie (Assistant Public Relations Officer).
Other members of the union holding existing offices include Chief Hon Hope Utchay (Chairman), Mallam Auwal Illiyasu (Vice Chairman), Mrs Ifeoma Nwankwo (Chairlady), Mrs Oyinye Chinda (Financial Secretary), Papa Jessy (Public Relations Officer) and Sadiq Mohammed (Provost).
