Rivers NCSU Explains Postponement of Delegates’ Confab

…Hails Wike On Birthday

The  Nigeria  Civil Service  Union  (NCSU), Rivers  State Council has offered  reasons  for putting  on  hold  its  delegates   conference   scheduled   for  Friday,  December   13,  2019, where  new officers  to pilot the affairs of the union  in the State would  have been elected.. This  is even  as the  union  has congratulated   the  Governor  of the  state,  Chief  Nyesom Wike on his birth celebration.

The State Chairman of  the Caretaker Committee of the union, Comrade  Chuks Osumah while briefing newsmen at  the union’s  secretariat in Port  Harcourt  recently,  said  the decision  to put on hold the conference  followed  litigations  instituted  by some  aggrieved members,  which  he said were  still pending  at the National  Industrial  Court .

He explained  that the caretaker  committee  chose to toe that path of honour  because  the union,   being  the  oldest   in  the  country,   is  law-abiding   and  obeys   and  upholds   the cherished  time-tested   principles  of rule of law.

While  urging  members  of the  union  in the state  to  remain  peaceful  and   bear with  the committee  for the decision,  Osumah  said  the committee  was  committed to discharging  its mandate to the letter and also hand over to elected  officers  of the union  in the state at the end of the day, by ensuring  that all contending  issues are resolved  amicably.

He regretted the  inconveniences the  postponement   of the  delegates   conference   must have  caused  members  of the  union,  assuring  that  a new date  for  the  event  would  be communicated   to them,  particularly  when  all issues must have been resolved.

Osumah on behalf of members of the  caretaker committee and the  entire members of the union in the state congratulated Governor Wike  on  his  birthday celebration last  Friday, saying, the Governor has kept faith with civil servants in the State by prompt  and regular payment  of salaries  and pensions.

“His Excellency, even as you celebrate your birthday, always know. that civil servants in the state will continue to support you.  More grease to  your elbow and we wish you more wisdom,  good health  and long life,” he said.

He, however,  appealed  to Governor  Wike  to as a ‘talk and do’ Governor set    machinery  in motion  for the payment  of the  new  minimum  wage  to the workers  as well  as  affect  the ‘promotion  of deserving  civil servants  in the state.
