Nursery, Primary Schools In Rivers Resume Monday, November 23rd
The dust has finally settled on widely held speculations about the actual resumption date of primary schools pupils in Rivers State, following official announcement by the Rivers State government, through the office of the state ministry of education.
Recall that before the announcement by the authorities, parents generally were at a loss about the actual resumption date.
Many had speculated that, with the announcement of the resumption of students in the senior and junior secondary categories earlier, it would not be long before others would follow.
Our checks reveal that some parents had sought to know developments from school authorities to no availabe, just as previously speculated dates did not yield a concrete result as either the pupils and their parents got turned back or told to exercise more patience as the school authorities awaited official feedback from the ministry of education.
But, a statement from the Rivers State Commissioner of Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, through the Press Secretary, Sir Chidi Adiele noted that:”This is to inform the general public that His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS (Africa), Governor of Rivers State, has approved the reopening of all Public and Private Nursery and Primary Schools in the State with effect from Monday 23rd
“By this announcement all Head Teachers, Proprietors and other concerned persons should take all necessary steps to ensure safe and hitch-free resumption in line with extant COVID-19 Protocols.”
Reacting to the latest official announcement, a parent, Mrs. Joke Mohammed described the news as heart-warming and good news for the concerned pupils and Parents.
According to her, she could no longer answer some of the questions posed by her children about going back to school. “I had though that they will resume in January next Year because their school could not give a clear information about resumption, “she said.
Another parent, Silver Nmadi noted that the announcement came when she least expected it. She said: “I got a message from my children’s school last week, telling us they would resume this past Monday, only for my husband to go for confirmation and be told till further notice.” She expressed joy that on Tuesday, the school management sent another message confirming the actual resumption, which she noted was in tandem with the Rivers State government announcement.
