RGS Suspends Two Principals For Alleged Collection Of Illegal Fees

The Executive Chairman of Universal Basic Education Board in Rivers State, Fynface Akah, has suspended two public school principals over alleged involvement in the collection of illegal charges.

The principals are of the Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary section of Community School, Okoro-N’odu in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

Dr Akah while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt directed all Head Teachers and Principals who have collected such illegal charges to refund parents immediately or face the consequences.

He emphasised that UBE schools remain free in Rivers State and the state government is committed to providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

NRN reports that as schools resumed parents of public school children in Rivers State expressed their frustration over the financial burden they are facing before their children begin new classes this academic session.

Some of them who spoke said they are paying between N20,000 and N30,000 for items such as uniforms and notebooks.
