Okwuzi Community Disowns Prime Minister Position

The Okwuzi Council of Chiefs in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, has dismissed a purported position of Prime Minister in Okwuzi Community, describing it as strange to its customs and tradition.

The Chief-in-Council described this in a press briefing while reacting to claims by one Nelson Epkeri that he is the traditional prime minister of Okwuzi Community.

According Council Chairman, Eze James M. Nnah, there is no such title in Okwuzi Community. “Our community does not have a traditional prime minister, what we have is a Regent following the incapacitation of our Paramount ruler”, he declared.

He insisted that anyone parading himself as the traditional prime minister of Okwuzi community should be treated as an impostor. “Our chieftaincy matter which is on the rightful successor is still in the court,” the Chief said.

The council apologized to the Inspector General of Police, the AIG zone 16, Commissioner of Police, Rivers State and the DPO of Okwuzi Division for the unruly conduct of Nelson Epkeri, adding that it is not in the character of Egbema sons and daughters to disrespect constituted authorities.

His words: “As a community we tender our unalloyed apology to the Nigeria police and vehemently distance our community from this show of shame”.
