Alleged Rape Of Married Woman Draws Wrath Of Emohua Community

Elders and Chiefs of Mgbuitanwo in Emohua Local Government area of Rivers State have begun moves to cleanse the land to avoid negative consequences after a man, Ogechi aged forty three years allegedly raped a married woman, Mrs Believe on the bare floor in the community last week, National Network can report.

We gathered that the incident has attracted wide spread condemnation because aside it been a crime is also a sacrilege for a man to have sex with a woman on bare floor in the community.

A source which pleaded anonymity told our reporter that spiritual cleansing must be carried out to avoid negative consequences that may arise as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, the twenty year-old married woman who is a native of Akwa/Ibom allegedly raped by one Ogechi has called for justice.

Mrs Believe, in a telephone interview with our reporter said the husband’s friend Ogechi who is a native of the community came to their house in the night on 13th January, 2020 and asked her to give him knife to cut plantain after he has enquired from her and found out that her husband and her brother was not at home.

Mrs Believe, asserted that the suspect called her attention minutes later and asked her to open the door and take plantain she will give to her husband when he comes back.Mrs Believe disclosed that she opened the door and took the plantain to the kitchen and while she was coming back the husband’s friend held her and told her to comply or he will kill her.

She said despite the plea the man dragged her and allegedly raped her on the bare floor at the corridor.

In his reaction, the Youth President of the community, Chinedu Jreremiah said the suspect was arrested by the youth two days after the alleged rape survivor made complaints to him and he was immediately handed over to the Rumuji Divisional Police headquarters in Emohua LGA.

Mr Jeremiah said is also a taboo for a man to have sex with a woman on bare floor in Mgbuitanwo whether they are couple or not.

The Youth President described the alleged rape of the woman on the floor as not only a crime but a sacrilege in the community.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that investigation is ongoing.

As at the time of filing this report, we gathered that the suspect has been transferred from Rumuji Police station to State Criminal Investigation Department, Port Harcourt.
