Woman Alleges Police Brutality For Loss Of Pregnancy

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit attached to Mini-Okoro unit, Port Harcourt who allegedly brutalized one Mrs Joy Godstime Ihunwo at Mile 3 Diobu leading to loss of her three months pregnancy risk severe sanctions which may lead to dismissal, our correspondent has gathered even as the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni complaint disclosed that the woman should make a formal compliant to the Police and the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday, who has zero tolerance for human rights abuses will look at the matter.

Mrs Ihunwo a thirty year old woman was allegedly brutalized by men of Anti-Kidnapping unit in Rivers State had revealed that she lost her pregnancy after the incident.

In an interview with our correspondent, the woman who wept uncontrollably said the scan result obtained from Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and another private clinic which was also sighted by our reporter dated 10th and 11th April,2021 showed that she lost the pregnancy.

Mrs Ihunwo called on well meaning Nigerians to help her get justice.

Narrating her ordeal, she disclosed she was in the house last week when personnel of Anti-kidnapping unit came looking for her husband who is the Chief Security Officer of Rumu-Elechi community in Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt. According to her, despite arresting her husband and some of his vigilance group members, some of the Police officers broke her room, came inside and allegedly beat her up with butt of the gun before whisking her away to their office alongside her husband and his workers.

Mrs Ihunwo revealed that she was released later in the night that same day and brought back to the house by the men of Anti-kidnapping unit after intervention of some individuals.

She also accused the unit of stealing her money, some other valuables and engaging in wanton destruction of property.

Our correspondent reports that her husband and some of the vigilance group members who were arrested have been granted bail by the Anti-kidnapping unit.

As at press time the traumatized Mrs Ihunwo had filed a formal complaint to the Commissioner of Police against the personnel of Anti-kidnapping unit accused of being responsible for loss of her pregnancy.

It would be recalled that the Commissioner of Police, CP Friday in his maiden media briefing said arrest in lieu (arresting a person in place of another suspect) is prohibited.
