Tension In Rivers State University Over Shooting Of Final Year Student

There is palpable tension at the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oruworukwo, Port Harcourt following the shooting of Blessing Ogolo, a final year student of department of mathematics, faculty of sciences on campus recently.

Blessing Ogolo who survived the gunshot denied allegations that he belongs to a cult group.

Blessing Ogolo explained that before the last incident, some boys suspected to be students attacked him at the back gate of the institution with a gun and machete sometime ago and dispossessed him of his phone.

Ogolo stated that, they were later arrested at Illoabuchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt and the Police recovered guns from the two of them.

He further said they were consequently transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at Rupokwu where they mentioned the death of one Prince Tuaka and I told them “I do not belong to any cult group neither do I know about the death of any Prince Tuaka”.

Ogolo explained that last Wednesday, 10th March, after his examination, three gunmen led by his coursemate simply identified as Michael attacked and shot severally at him. He said having survived the gunshots, he chased and caught one of them and handed him over to the school security who then alerted the police.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, SP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident, while adding that Mr. Ogolo is fingered to be a cultist and the arrested suspect is helping police with investigation.
