Attack On Ogoni Communities: Rt. Hon. Dekor Spits Fire, Petitions Security Agencies

Less than two months after communal clashes between Lu-Sue and Zor-Sogho communities in Khana Local Government Area sent over 10 persons to their early graves, another orgy of violence has been reported in Luebe and Lorre Communities in the Local Government Area.

The incident which took place on Sunday morning, allegedly claimed the lives of about nine persons and many properties destroyed, according to unconfirmed reports in what was said to be an unwarranted attack by criminal elements suspected to be cultists.

In a swift reaction, the lawmaker representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor in strong terms condemned the attack, describing it as one too many.

He said concerned citizens would not fold their hands and watch any part of Ogoniland turned into a den of criminals and killers by blood thirsty cultists.

Vowing that these criminal elements must be smoked out of Ogoniland, Rt. Hon. Dekor called on Rivers State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to do the needful and ensure that appropriate steps are taken to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

The federal lawmaker who was one-time Commissioner for Works in Rivers State, warned cultists still operating in Ogoniland, particularly those responsible for the senseless killing in Luebe and Lorre Communities, Sunday morning, to surrender in their own interest as their days are numbered.

He also charged the youths to desist from irresponsible ways such as cultism, kidnappings, armed robbery and other social vices that may destroy their future.

National Network learnt that gunmen reportedly targeted persons in the communities perceived to be against their nefarious activities.

Community sources informed our reporter that the gunmen in their large numbers came with sophisticated and assault rifles and held the community hostage for atleast two hours.

Our source disclosed that some persons sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police command, SP Nnamdi Omoni was yet to respond to text messages sent by our reporter on enquiry into the incident.

We gathered that the Sunday attack was a deviation from the normal routine of suspected cultists who target their rivals for elimination as the persons killed were innocent persons.
