Activist Cautions FG On State Of Insecurity

A Niger Delta activist, Anabs Sara-Igbe, has cautioned the federal government on the state of insecurity in the country saying the government should take appropriate action to end insecurity in all parts of the country.

Sara-Igbe who is National Coordinator of South-South Elders’ Forum speaking in an interview said it was unfortunate that series of incidents were happening around the country showing the lack of will on the part of government to end the cases of insecurity.

He said it was unfortunate that police stations were destroyed and prisons attacked, as well as other cases of insecurity and kidnappings in parts of the country committed by hoodlums who went away free.

Sara-Igbe said: “That is very unfortunate. It is quite unfortunate that we are degenerating into what happened in the First Republic. We need to be very careful so that we don’t slide into a civil war. What is happening is very unfortunate and is not what we need at this stage of our development”.

He said that what the country needs was “cohesion” and growth.

He also said that the country needs restructuring for peace to exist.

“We are saying for us to get absolute peace in this country, we need restructuring.”

The activist said that restructuring could help solve the problems affecting the country saying “we insist on restructuring from time to time”.

He also expressed hope that the country would be restructured.

He also said the South-South Elders’ Forum would meet this week to review happenings in the country and take a position including also on the rumoured likely defection of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the All Progressives’ Congress to run for president in 2023.

A security expert also recently advised the government to take internal security seriously and provide funding and welfare for security agencies including the police to respond promptly in times of emergency.

In recent months, there had been kidnappings and attacks on security personnel and police stations and prisons including on the country home of Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, which called for national concern.
