Ogonis Mobilize To Receive, Honour Gov Wike With Chieftaincy Title

As a token of their appreciation for all what they described as uncommon love for the Ogoni people, the people of Ogoni, Rivers South-East, said all is now in place to officially honour and welcome Governor Nyesom Wike to Ogoniland.

The grand reception billed for Saturday, May 15, 2021 will take place at the State School, Bori.

Top of the activities lined up for the historic event is the conferment of a chieftaincy title on Gov Wike.

Briefing newsmen at Sakpenwa, headquarters of Tai Local Government Area over the weekend the president of Kagote, the organizers of the event, Hon Emma Deeyah said the import of the grand reception is to express their appreciation to His Excellency for all the people-oriented projects sited in Ogoniland by the Wike administration.

According to Hon Deeyah, Gov Wike deserves special appreciation for his care and concern for Ogoni people which he has demonstrated not only through sitting of projects in Ogoni but also appointing illustrious sons and daughters of Ogoni extraction into positions of trust and responsibility. 

The Kagote President said as one good turn deserves another, thanking and honouring Gov Wike by the people of Ogoni will spur the governor to do more for the people.

Hon Fred Kpakol, the chairman of the mobilization committee, and a serving Commissioner for agriculture in the State said the reception for Gov Wike has no political colouration and urged all Ogonis-chiefs and elders, women, youths, traditional rulers and all opinion leaders to turn out enmass to honour the governor on the scheduled date. 

 HRH, Mene Suanu Baridam Gbenemene of Bangha who is the PRO of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers in his speech urged all the Paramount rulers to go to their various homes and sensitize all the clan chiefs (Mene zior).

 Chief Precilia Vikue, the first vice president of Kagote appealed to the women from the four LGAs that make up Ogoni to come out in their numbers, noting that in every occasion it is the women that give it colour

She explained that the occasion on the 15th of May would be unique in the sense that it has to do with the future, survival and the progress of Ogoni people.

Hon. Lee Maeba said the Ogonis are ready to roll out their drums to display the rich cultural heritage of the Ogoni people to show the governor that they appreciate what he has done for them. He called on the youths, women, men, chiefs, opinion leaders, clergymen and traditional rulers to come out to grace the occasion.

The meeting was attended by Ogoni traditional rulers, opinion leaders, youths, women and politicians drawn from the four LGAs of Ogoniland.
