Rivers CAN Prays For Nation’s Peace
… Supports Southern Govs Position
The Rivers State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has joined voices to condemn the growing insecurity in the country and urge the federal government to rise up to its responsibility of protecting lives and properties.
On its part CAN embarked on serious prayer session for the peace of the nation as it lent support to the position of the Southern Governors Forum.
This was part of the 11 point communiqué issued at the end of an emergency prayer session of the association last week in Port Harcourt. The communiqué condemned in its totality the incursion of criminals, armed herders and proliferation of arms.
Buttressing its support to the Southern Governors ban of open grazing, CAN attributes it as the major cause of the ethnic and tribal violence in Nigeria.
The Rivers State CAN also condemned the insensitivity of the Federal Government to federal character which they noted has led to lopsided appointments into critical areas of the economy in favour of a particular ethnic group which it noted equally led to division, agitation and social unrest. They affirmed their commitment to the unity of Nigeria with the hope that justice, fairness, equity and peaceful co-existence will be accorded desired attention by the authorities.
The body agreed to periodically convoke Corporate Solemn Assembly of Church leaders, increase advocacy against the evil be-deviling the land; teach the church to be involved in politics with desired results and to explore strategic plans to inform the church on how to combat evil plots against the church.
The association also agreed to invest in green revolution in agriculture, organize loans and grants to assist in advancement of constituent members of the Rivers State CAN.
The Christian body used the opportunity to commend Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and indeed the Southern Governors for according to them, the bold step in advocating for anti-open grazing and restructuring of the country which they had equally advocated for earlier.
Earlier, the Rivers State Chairman of CAN, Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa, PhD set the tone for the meeting held at St. Michael’s (Ang.) Church Deanery, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt while the Bishop of Evo Diocese of the Church, Rt. Rev. Innocent Ordu delivered the key note address which theme was “the state of the nation: the position of the Church in Rivers State.
Highlights of the event was praise and worship session, interjected with the word of God as well as special intercessory prayer points for God to intervene in the matters.
The Rivers State Ministry of Health used the opportunity of the church leaders gathering to lecture on the need for people to ensure that they are vaccinated against the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
Thereafter, many persons who were still doubting the efficacy of the vaccine joined in the exercises.
