Man Dies Scavenging Iron Rods In Ikoku
A man simply identified as Chibuzor died on Monday afternoon as he was scavenging for iron rods with his colleagues in a storey building while a caterpillar machine was demolishing at School Road Street, Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that while the catepillar was demolishing the upper floor of the building ,the deceased and his colleagues were still at down floor scavenging iron rods.
The eyewitness disclosed that a large concrete from the first floor that was been demolished fell on Chibuzor and trapped his legs while another concrete of the building fell on him.
The eyewitness said Chibuzor was gasping for breath when he was brought out and finally gave up the ghost.
Our correspondent who visited the scene on Monday evening saw the corpse of the deceased at the centre of the road at School road street.
Our correspondent reports that despite the incident young men were still scavenging for iron rods at the particular building the incident took place as well as other buildings that are being demolished.
Investigation by our reporter indicate that scavenging of Iron rods by youths has become a lucrative business at demolished buildings at Ikoku and its environs .
As at the time of this report, police officers from Nkpolu and Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters in Diobu were also sighted at the scene taking photographs of the deceased.
