POS Robbery Suspect Arrested In Obalga
A member of a syndicate who gave his name as Segun Balogun who allegedly robbed money and handsets from POS operators and shop owners at Akwaka Phase 2, in Rumuodumaya axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area is now helping the Divisional Police Headquarters in Rumuokoro in investigation.
The owner of the shop who identified herself as Gladys told our reporter that on April 2,2021 she left her ten- year-old Son in her shop and went to the market.
When she came back from market her Son informed her that a male customer who came to but tomatoes swindled him and collected ‘Techno spark 7’ phone.
The shop owner explained that on 14th May 2021,the same gang came to her store in her absence and swindled her sales boy of 16 her and 14 year-old Son of N150,000 naira meant for POS business.
She said luck ran out of the suspect last week Friday when her son identified him as he was passing in front of their shop and she raised an alarm when residents apprehend him and handed over to police.
Meanwhile some shop owners who have been victims identified the suspect as a member of the gang who robbed them.
We learned that the suspect has reportedly made confessional statement to the Police and revealed where he normally sells the handsets they rob from their victims.
In a related development, the Rivers State Police Command last week Wednesday, at Rumuosi in Obio/Akpor LGA, arrested the trio of Chukwudi Ani ‘m’, Edwin Chibuike Okike ‘m’ and Chidinma Eze ‘f’ who are members of a robbery gang that specialized in robbing unsuspecting persons of their belongings around the Choba/ Obiri Ikwerre axis of the State.
The Spokesperson of the Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni said they were arrested after they successfully robbing one Mr Simon Ibrahim who was on his way to make deposit in the bank but lured by the gang, who were driving in a Mazda car. SP Omoni said luck ran out on them when the victim raised alarm that alerted the Police and they were immediately arrested and taken to the Choba Police Station.
The victim had in possession the sum of One Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID to take over the investigation and ensure that other suspects were arrested and prosecuted.
