Police Officer Detained Over Attempt To Stab Suspect At Station
A Police Officer whose identity is yet to be known was detained at Elipranwon Police Division in Obi/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State for allegedly attempting to stab a suspect, Uwem Umoh, arrested over an issue bordering on ‘two fighting’.
Mrs Blessing Umoh, wife of Umoh in an interview said her husband had informed her on the phone last week Friday night that after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Police station sent for him and he went to know the reason he was summoned by the DPO .
Mrs Umoh stated that on getting to the police station, the DPO reportedly ordered that her husband who was reportedly granted bail be re-detained.
She said that trouble started when her husband tried putting calls across to his family members to inform them of the development when the male Police Officer came close to her husband and used his baton to allegedly hit him
She stated that when her husband tried to resist the male Police officer brought out a knife to allegedly stab her husband as he was restrained by other police officers and ordered to be thrown into the cell by the DPO where he was detained for twenty hours.
Umoh confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our reporter after he was granted bail by a magistrate court last Monday.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile line by our reporter.
