Group Advocates Training For Parents With Disabled Children

Every Child is seen as a gift and a blessing from above with so much potentials. Unfortunately children with disabilities are seen differently and are less cared for by their parents and the society.

Against this back drop, the Executive Director of Lifeline Organization for Children Empowerment, Mrs Ngozichukwuka  Obiyo is calling for a special training for parents of children with disabilities.

Obiyo stated this when her Organization paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State Chapter in Port Harcourt.

She maintained that parents need to be educated on how best to handle children with all forms of disabilities regretting that despite the fact that most children with disabilities have mind blowing potentials they still suffer parental rejection.

“If parents discriminate against their children with disabilities, how then do we expect the society to accept them?”, she queried.

The Executive Director of Lifeline Organisation described it as disheartening how some parents  lock up their children with disabilities at home and go partying with their normal children, an action according to her is capable of killing them emotionally and physically.

Expressing Confidence in the ability of children with disabilities to do the unimaginable and make their parents proud, Mrs Obiyo directed parents having children with  disabilities to hookup to Lifeline Organization for Children Empowerment, where they will be taught the best and proper ways to handle children with disabilities from the home fronts.

She also said that disabilities in children is an issue that requires special skills by parents  in order to close the gaps on exclusion nglect and discrimination and charged school owners and proprietors to put into consideration the needs of children with disabilities in designing their structures and facilities.

On her part, Chairperson, NAWOJ, Rivers State, Comrade Susan Serekara-Nwikhana thanked the group and assured them of NAWOJ maximum support in amplifying the voice of the down trodden and less privileged ones, especially those living with disabilities in the society.

She further thanked them for believing and appreciating the selfless services NAWOJ renders to better the lives of vulnerable women and girls in the society.
