Healthcare Delivery: ONELGA Council To Revitalize Oboburu Health Centre

Chairman, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Hon. Vincent Job has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment at ensuring good and effective healthcare delivery system in the Local Government Area.

The Chairman gave the assurance when he received the Paramount Ruler of Oboburu Community, Eze Gilbert Ofunim, Eze Oboburu IV and members of his Council of Chiefs in the Council Chambers, Omoku, Headquarters of the Local Government Area.

Hon. Job haven listened to the delegation, identified idleness and joblessness as major sources of insecurity, and pledged his administration’s resolve to tackle the menace.

He enjoined the Leadership of Oboburu Community to take inventory of the Community’s Health Centre with a view to listing all defects, dilapidated or damaged facility, so the Council can rehabilitate same for effective use.

On the issue of flooding, the Council Boss said ONELGA has taken proactive steps with NEMA to ensure that IDP Camps and necessary logistics are put in place before the natural disaster, while urging residents of flood-prone areas to be at alert so they are not taken unawares.

Hon. Job also condemned open-grazing activities of herdsmen which have devastating effect on the environment and economy of the area.

Earlier, the delegation led by the Paramount Ruler of Oboburu Community, Eze Gilbert Ofunim, Eze Oboburu IV said they were in the Council to congratulate the Chairman on his victory at the polls, his subsequent Swearing-in and victory at the election tribunal.

The Paramount Ruler who spoke through Dr. Kasi Jokiel-Ojike, expressed regret over undue neglect of Oboburu Community by both governments and multinationals despite huge deposit of hydrocarbon and other mineral resources in their land.

He disclosed that Oboburu Community is the third largest in Ogbaland with high population of human and natural resources, and appealed for investments to tap from the natural endowment inherent in the land.

On his part, the Onueze of Oboburu Community, High Chief Bright Ezikere lamented the negative impact of flood in his Palace, which according to him has been a recurring decimal, and impoverishes him each time it comes.

He also decried the activities of herdsmen whose cattle destroy farmlands – the only source of their livelihood, and cried for the intervention of the Council to curb these problems.

The delegation enumerated a number of challenges facing the Community to include under-development; unemployment; poor health facility; perennial flooding; and open grazing activities of herdsmen.
