NSCDC Keeps Mute Over Man’s Alleged Detention

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has refused to respond to the alleged detention of one Mr Jamiu John who was allegedly arrested more than a week ago.

Inquiries by National Network reporter on the incident did not yield result as the spokesperson of the command, Michael Oguntuase, declined giving official statement on the issue. In the meantime, Victor Chukwu, a friend of John accused NSCDC of illegally detaining his friend for over a week for no known cause.

Chukwu told our reporter that his sister who resides at 306 Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt called him on the phone that her neighbour with the children were fighting her.

Mr. Chukwu explained that he arrived his sister’s house in company of his friend to inquire from the woman what transpired between his sister and the woman but the lady was not in the house.

He  stated that he was surprised when the sister’s neighbour brought personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to arrest his friend  rather than going to the if she had any complaint.

He alleged that  he went to the headquarters of NSCDC at Olu-Obasanjo road with a Police Officer and NSCDC denied his friend was in their custody as at last Tuesday September 7.

Mr. Chukwu further explained that John’s friends were only allowed to see him last Wednesday when they brought food for him.

He regretted that NSCDC officials would allow themselves to be used and said he  reported the matter to the police at Rumupaikani Division and was ready to make himself available to the police for questioning are not NSCDC.

He  queried the rationale behind his sister’s neigbour reporting the matter to NSCDC rather than going to police to report.
