Hon. Okpe Fulfils Election Promise, Lays Foundation Stone For Market Project
In his quest to fast-track development and fulfils his campaign promises, the Chairman of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Mbakpone Okpe laid the foundation stone of the ultra modern market, Kpite Community on Monday, October 18, 2021.
Speaking during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the market as part of activities marking his 100 days in office, Hon. Okpe said he remains committed to the delivery of quality projects that will enhance the standard of living of the people.
He said the commencement of the project was to fulfil the election promise he pledged during the campaigns to build a modern market for the people of Kpite.
His words: I want people to do their businesses without a hindrance I want to take them off the road. The people of Kpite have done their part by voting me into office and it is now my turn to fulfil my promise. What we are doing here today is the beginning of the fulfillment of part of the promises I made to them.
Hon. Okpe thanked the traditional ruler of Kpite Community, HRH. Mene Samuel Nnee and his people for their magnanimity in donating a piece of land to build a park, noting that the market has grown to a point that there is no more parking space for the people to comfortably do their businesses and promised to commence work on the car park alongside the market project.
He also promised to pay compensation for the economic crops on the land and urged the youths not to disturb the contractor for timely completion of the project.
Hon. Okpe also thanked the leadership of PDP, particularly Governor Nyesom Wike whom he said gave him the support to be chosen by the Tai people after due consultation and prayed God to bless them all.
He said he was able to make such tremendous achievements due to the free hand given to him to run the affairs of the council and prayed for continued support and free hand to deliver on his mandate to the people.
The special guest of honour, Chief Marcus Nle-Ejii in his speech expressed satisfaction with the programmes and activities of Hon. Okpe administration, describing his development efforts and initiatives as meaningful, monumental and sustainable.
He commended Hon. Okpe’s pragmatism, commitment and courage, stressing that he never regretted supporting him and urged the chairman to keep up his good work.
Chief Nle-Ejii pleaded that the allocation of the shops when completed should be given to the real market women and not politicians and their families. The former State lawmaker urged the market women to always pray for the success of Hon. Okpe.
The Gbenemene Tua-Tua Tai, HRH, Mene Samuel Nnee said the council boss has demonstrated optimum concern and the right attitude to the development of Tai. He said that he was optimistic that the council boss would perform from the onset.
A member representing Tai Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Dike said Hon. Okpe is replicating what is being done at the State level by Governor Nyesom Wike who has demonstrated capacity and how to run a public office. Hon. Okpe, also according to Hon. Dike, has also changed the narratives of Tai LGA.
Hon. Monday Ngbor in his speech said they are pleased with Hon. Okpe as choice for Tai LG chairman and praised the council boss for achieving so much within his 100 days in office and promised to support him actively because he is a God-sent.
