My Late Wife Was Like A Sailor, Says Capt. Vikue

The remains of Late Mrs. Veronica BarinemVikue, wife of renowned seafarer, Captain Samuel Court Vikue was laid to rest on Friday, October 29, 2021 at her hometown, Bodo City in Gokana Local Government Area.

The bereaved husband told reporters after a funeral service in her honour at St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church and, subsequent interment in her husband’s compound, that the 65-year-old housewife, petty trader and Christian mother was reputed for her humility, caregiving and industry, both at the home front and in the larger society, and was among Pilgrims who visited the renowned ancient and holy city of Rome in 2012.

The burial attracted large attendance which included in-laws from across Ogoniland in Rivers State and beyond, due to her dedication to religious activities being a member of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), St. Monica, Mother of Perpetual Group, Legion of Mary and Divine Mercy Organization, among others.

Elaborating on his feelings about the death of his wife, the well-travelled seafarer and recipient of many awards for Excellence, likened the life of his late wife to his own experiences as a sailor, explaining that they both laboured hard with open mind, cherished credibility, loved humanity and hung their hope on God.

He philosophically described the death of his darling wife as a journey embarked on by a sailing ship which did not return and lamented in the following words, “Today, my very large container carrier vessel has sailed. Bon Voyage Nma, meet you at the next port”.

Captain Vikue thanked sympathizers for making the ceremonies successful, while a senior journalist and public commentator, Comrade Alloy IronleeKhenom in his message prayed God to give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

A well-known Catholic Priest and Administrator, Monsignor Barinem Livy-Boniko, Dr Livinus Barikor (a.k.a Baba Sala) and Chairman, Bodo City Council of Chiefs and Elders, Mene John Vilola were among notable dignitaries at the event.
