Banigo Harps On Need For Youths To Embrace ICT Values

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has re-echoed the State Government’s desire to create a safe and reliable access to Data and Information Management as well as to boost Digital Technology in the State.

Dr. Banigo disclosed this in a statement from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, April 28th, 2022 to commemorate this year’s International Day of Girls in ICT.

According to Dr. Banigo, Youths must take advantage of the enormous opportunities provided by the Internet and Information Technology to develop their innate potentials and contribute positively to human capital and societal growth.

Dr. Banigo said the theme of this year’s global event, which is “Access and Safety”, calls for both Parents and Child Care Providers to pay closer attention to increased cases of moral vices in the social media.

The Deputy Governor, noted that as a passion and in complimenting the efforts of the State Governor, she undertook to sponsor 250 students of the Rivers State University in a one-month intensive Cyber Security Summit/ Training at the instance of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) last year, adding that over a thousand Youths have been gainfully employed from her pet Project – Caywood Brown Foundation which came on board in 2006.

She said, Starter Packs and cash donations worth millions of naira have been presented on yearly bases at different occasions to the benefitting youths in various Skills Acquisition Programmes such as ICT, Fibre Glass Boat making, Photography/Video production, Electrical Installation, soap making, Fashion Design and Shoe manufacturing.

This she said in addition to her annual scholarship scheme for students in Tertiary Institutions from Degema Local Government Area and other parts of the State.
