Man, 42, In Court Over Alleged N91,000 Swindle

A 42-year-old man, Michael Chibuike Duru, is facing charge of alleged swindling at a Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court for failing to provide accommodation after payment.

The suspect had collected N91,000 from his victim but had failed to provide accommodation.

The case was tried by Chief Magistrate I.F. Iyabo of the Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court 7.

When the one-count charge was read to him the suspect had pleaded not guilty.

He was arraigned last month and was granted bail.

The case was adjourned to 8 December for hearing.

The prosecutor in the case between the Commissioner of Police of Rivers State and Michael Chibuike Duru is an Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Wilson Isaiah.

In charge number PMC/1735c/2021, the charge said: “That you Michael Chibuike Duru ‘m’ on the 15th day of December, 2020 at First Transformer, Rumuodomaya Town in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did obtain the sum of ninety-one thousand naira (N91,000) from one Kponee Monday Barizaasi ‘m’ with the pretence of giving him a mini self-contained apartment, a representation which you knew to be false and does not exist in reality and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999”.

The suspect who is out on bail is expected back in court on the adjourned date for hearing.
