History was made on Sunday, December 19, 2021 as Etche Local Government Area witnessed the first inauguration of Timber Dealers Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society in grand style.
Performing the inauguration which took place at Okehi, headquarters of the LGA, the representative of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Nma Ogbonnaya who is also the
Secretary to the Deputy Director, Co-operative Commission of the Ministry, commended the efforts of those who united themselves to come up with what she described as a noble idea.
Mrs. Ogbonnaya charged them not to go back now that the society has received full authority from the Ministry but to work as a team towards lifting the society and Etche land to a greater heights and further appeal to Etche sons and daughters who are highly placed to be supportive to the giants efforts of the society as the organization has been registered on decree No. 9 of 1993 now an act of 2004 with registration No. RS 34123.
Those inaugurated include Mr. Nwaelele Nkemakolomas President, Elder Dike Felix Vice Chairman, Mr. Anunobi Paul Secretary General, Pastor Amadi Fineface Treasurer, Onwuka Hemefor Financial Secretary, Kelechi Adiele P.R.O, Eze Gift Okere Provost, Michael Onwuka Auditor, and City Ndudiri Azuatalam Task Force Chairman, respectively.
Earlier in their address of welcome presented by the Secretary General Mr. Anunobi Paul, the society enumerated some of the achievements made as enactment of societies constitution, registration of the society with CAC, election of effective executive members, protection of members business, registration of members with designated identity cards as well as maintenance of cordial relationship among members.
Despite the achievements made so far, the society has the challenges of how to improve the financial status of its members to carry out their business effectively as well as fund to assist them acquire land and purchase wood sawing equipment (scanner) and therefore appeal to spirited individuals to come to their aid.
Also speaking the vice chairman of Igwuruta branch Timber dealers association Mr. Iwejor Clifford advise the members to be fair and work to the Certification of their customers as to maintain the dignity of the society and Etche at large. In his Royal address the paramount Ruler of Okehi Clan His Majesty Eze Ibezim Eke JP commended the initiative of the society which is aimed at bringing the Timber dealers in Etche Local Government Area together.
The monarch who was represented by Ochimba Godwin Onwuka JP called on Families/communities to use path of their farm lands to plant economic trees that can be useful for the younger generations in future and avoid bush burning.
