Defendant Facing Assault Charge Of Beating Victim Now To Be Back In Court January 18
A defendant, Telema Jonny, who is facing charges of allegedly beating his victim and causing bodily harm would now come for trial at the Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court 17 on January 18.
The case which was previously adjourned to January 14 could not be heard on the date.
The 63-year-old suspect was arraigned before the court on December 14 presided by Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart of the Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court.
The suspect faces three counts and had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
One of the charges said: “That you Telema Jonny ‘m’ and Tamunoemi Wokoma ‘m’ now at large on the 2nd day of December, 2021 at No 2, Bank Road, Port-Harcourt in the Port-Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: assault occasioning harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 (A) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”
It was said that the defendant and his accomplice allegedly beat up their victim and caused bodily harm by allegedly pushing their victim against an iron protector.
The two other charges said: “That you Telema Jonny ‘m’ and Tamunoemi Wokoma ‘m’ now at large on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did unlawfully assault one Princess Chukwu ‘f’ after beating her, pushed her on an iron protector door on her right hand which caused her harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
“That you Telema Jonny ‘m’ and Tamumoemi Wokoma ‘m’ now at large on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did damage and cut the handbag valued five hundred naira (N500.00), property of one Princess Chukwu ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 45 (1), (b) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”
The case which is between the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the defendant had the prosecuting officer, Insp Wilson Isaiah, representing the state Police Command.
The charge number was PMC/1917c/2021.
The defendant who was granted bail at the first trial would now appear in court on January 18.
