Tai Chairman Pledges More Support For Tai Legionnaires 

The Chairman of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Friday Nbakpone Okpe has promised to continue to carry the legionaries along in his scheme of things.

The Council boss made the promise while marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Saakpenwa, the headquarters of the local government area, saying his administration will continue to support legionaries and their widows with monthly stipend to cushion the effects of life challenges.

He also promised to provide them with a good office apartment where they can meet to discuss issues that affect them and also to engage the active ones as local security man.

Hon. Okpe donated the sum of one million naira (N1,000,000.00) towards the fund raising for the welfare of the veterans widows and dependants of the fallen heroes in Tai and urged other spirit minded individuals, corporate bodies, non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations to support the efforts of these veterans who laid down their lives for the unity of this great country. “the living legends deserve our regard, honour and support because some are so old and frail such that they can no longer effectively carter for themselves,” he said.

According to him, the day was set aside to remember the fallen and the living heroes who fought doggedly for the sovereignty of this nation. “Some fought locally while some fought internationally to see that Nigeria as an entity continued to stay in the interest of all of us. Some of these people in the process of it died while some are permanently incapacitated due to injury and here we are in Nigeria sleeping with our two eyes closed,” he lamented.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Tai Chapter, ACC Maj. Kuu Aminikpo thanked their patron, Hon. Okpe for the immeasurable supports given to them, adding that his personal life and administration have remained a major source of blessings to mankind with selfless services to humanity through various forms of empowerment.

He promised to continue to support the chairman through prayers for the sustenance of his administration, and for bringing the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

The highpoint of the event was the laying of wreath by the council boss, DPO of Tai Police Station and the Chairman of the legionaries.
