Police Commence Investigation Into Killing Of Vigilante Personnel In Ibaa
The Rivers State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into the killing of a vigilante personnel identified as Ulochi James, by unknown gunmen in Ibaa Community Emohua Local Government Area last week Saturday.
The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko told our reporter that the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered for a discreet investigation into the incident.
Community sources told our reporter that the Unknown gunmen came to where the faction of vigilante was gathered at Omuobis Clan, Ibaa and shot indiscriminately which resulted to the death of one person and others sustaining injuries.
We learnt that the Divisional headquarters Rumuji arrived the scene few minutes after the incident but the assailants had fled before the arrival of the police.
Insider sources told our correspondent that the killing may not be unconnected to the crisis brewing between two factions of vigilante groups in Ibaa Community over collection of levies from illegal oil bunkerers.
Dependable sources disclosed to this publication that a vigilante leader in one of the faction was shot on the stomach last year December and is still receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
As at press time, report says the police and other security agencies have intensified patrol to forestall reprisals and counter reprisals.
