Panic Grips Bolt Car Operators Over Armed Robbery, Kidnap Threat

…As Police Recover Body Of Man With Neck Tied To Tree

There seems to be palpable fear among Bolt car operators in Port Harcourt as they have reportedly become target by armed robbers and kidnappers in recent times.

Some Bolt drivers who spoke to our reporter disclosed that they no longer operate as soon as it is 7pm to avoid falling into the hands of armed robbers who disguise as passengers.

Meanwhile the Rivers State Police Command says its operatives have  apprehended four suspects involved in the alleged kidnapping and eventual murder of a commuter identified as Onyekachi Obioma Chukwuagu, along East/West Road to Rumuodogo 1 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.

A statement by the acting spokesperson of the command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko last Saturday identified the suspects as – Obichi Ngita, age 20 years, Chisom Honest aged 20 years, Young Chitu age 21 years and Omens Woke age 23 years.

According to the Police PRO On Tuesday, 22nd March, 2022, while pretending to be regular passengers, the suspects boarded the victim’s vehicle. “However, when they got to a quiet part of the route, they kidnapped the victim and abandoned the vehicle, with Reg. No. GDD 250 MU by the roadside”, she said .

The Police imagemaker explained that the command  upon receipt of the complaint swiftly mobilized operatives to the scene where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search resulting in the arrest of Chisom Honest, who led operatives to the rest of the gang, and the location of the victim’s corpse.

DSP Koko said the suspects claimed they murdered the victim, using a machete, for refusing to cooperate with them. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects indicted in the matter with a view to concluding the investigations.

DSP Koko said the Commissioner of Police, while condoling with the family of the deceased for the unfortunate loss, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation in line with his commitment to the cause of justice.

Relatively one Segun Akinyola last week Thursday lost his ash colour Toyota Corolla to a gunman who disguised as passenger at Mother-Cat junction Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt..

The driver disclosed to our reporter that the gunman who pretended to be a passenger told him(driver) he will stop at Mother Cat junction.

Mr Akinyola said when they got to MotherCat junction, the passenger brought out gun and pointed at him while two other men came out from a dark corner with guns in their hand .

He stated that the gunmen, robbed him of his handset, money before pushing him out of the vehicle while they speed off.

The Bolt driver revealed that, he reported the incident at Elekahia Police Division that night.

The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko, was yet to respond to text message sent to her mobile line on enquiry into the incident.

Checks by National Network indicate that there seems to be increase in incidents of car snatching in recent times in Rivers State.
