There was pandemonium inside Port Harcourt Correctional Centre last Monday as inmates protested the death of another inmate.
National Network gathered that some inmates took advantage of the riot that broke out to attempt escaping from the facility but their plans was foiled by armed squad of the Correctional Centre who allegedly shot at the legs of some of them that made efforts to escape.
Meanwhile a statement by the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correction
Service, Rivers state command, Juliet Ofoni said an inmate died after he was disciplined by a senior inmate for an undisclosed misconduct.
DSC Ofoni said the armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service brought the situation under control while adding that injured inmates were taken to the hospital.
As at press time, Our reporter gathered that the Controller of Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Center, Alex Oditah has constituted a panel of inquiry to investigate the incident.
