2023 Governorship: Consider Wakirike For Governor, Group Pleads With Gov Wike
As the 2023 general elections gather momentum, a socio-political group, Save Wakirike Movement, comprising sons and daughters from the ethnic nationality, has called on the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to consider ceding the governorship or Deputy governorship seat to the area for equity and fairness.
Briefing the press Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the President of the group, Comrade Israel Aseminaso, said while the other political blocs have occupied the three key political positions, namely Senate, deputy governorship and governorship one time or the other since 1999, the Wakirike bloc has not. This, he said calls for special consideration for the bloc as the 2023 general elections approach.
He stressed that the ethnic nationality had credible, trusted and well experienced persons in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP that could mount the affairs of Rivers State if given the opportunity to serve.
Aseminaso described the Wakirike bloc as Okrika, Ogu/Bolo and part of Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, said it has become expedient for the Wakirike to occupy those exalted political offices in the State.
He said for equity, fairness and conscience, it would be imperative to allow the Wakirike bloc produce the next Governor or Deputy Governor of the state in 2023.
The group who described Giv. Wike as a seasoned grassroots politician, appealed to him to hearken to their plea.
“As a political guru, we have no doubt that you also have an eye on these issues. Given the reputation who we know have this in mind.
As a people, we are asking that the governor grants the Wakirike bloc the governorship slot in 2023. Again, considering the efforts the bloc has put in 2015 and 2019 governorship elections, in which his Excellency is a beneficiary,” Aseminaso posited.
It categorised other political blocs in Rivers State as, Ikwere/Etche, Andoni/Ibani, Orashi, Kalabari and Ogoni. The President further noted that all these blocs had at one time or the other produced the Governor, Deputy Governor and even Senator, leaving the Wakirike as the odd man out.
Aseminaso assured that if their request would be granted, the governorship seat would ultimately be won and secured by the PDP.
