The immediate past Senator who represented Rivers South East in the National Assembly, and one of the frontline governorship aspirants in the State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Magnus Abe over the weekend took his political enlightenment campaign to Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.
Senator Abe said he deemed it very necessary to consult with the two council areas first because they are the microcosm of the entire Rivers State.
Any consultation with the mass of Rivers people living in these two important areas, he reasoned, will one way or the other impact all the strata of Rivers people.
The Ogoni-born lawyer turned politician said he carefully chose the month of May to bring his message of political emancipation of Rivers State because of what the month represents in the political life of the country.
In this month of May, Senator stressed, any decision taken by the people rightly or wrongly will affect the destiny of the people for a very long time.
He pleaded to the people to be cautious and meticulous in choosing who becomes the state governor in 2023 so that they don’t continue to wallow in ignorance and self deceit.
Senator Abe said he has wanted to be the number one citizen of the State so that the right persons will be chosen to man the relevant offices of government for the overall welfare of the people.
According to him, he has the requisite qualities and capacity to direct the state affairs in a manner devoid of selfishness, corruption, greed and misappropriation of State resources.
“If I am given the opportunity to serve as the state governor, I will form a government of unity among all Rivers people irrespective of which section you come from”, Senator Abe declared.
The APC strong man warned all Rivers people to discountenance those instigating the riverine/upland dichotomy, saying that is unnecessary and is meant to further divide Rivers people.
“Let us apply wisdom and use our heads to pursue what is right so that we don’t give those who are pursuing their own selfish interests the opportunity to continue to deceive us. So our brothers from Kalabari, Andoni and Opobo must prove to them that they can no longer deceive them anymore”, the APC governorship hopeful added.
On his support for Senator Bola Tinubu as the APC presidential candidate, Senator Abe said Tinubu is the only aspirant that has the killer punch to beat any candidate and ensure that APC remains in power.
There is no point, he said, supporting an aspirant whose hope is tied to another candidates success. Doing so amounts to self deceit, Senator Abe concluded.
Among the personalities on Senator Abe’s entourage were former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the State, Wogu Boms and Senator Wilson Ake who both pleaded with Rivers people to end the eight years of suffering in the state by choosing Senator Abe as the right candidate for the office of the state Governor in 2023.
