Rivers State University Holds 40th Matriculation Ceremony

The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule has lauded Governor Nyesom Wike for transforming the university to enviable heights through the provision of massive infrastructural facilities to enhance teaching and learning.

Prof. Okogbule who made the commendation during the 40th matriculation ceremony held at Convocation Arena, said the special attention given by the governor for the development of the university has no doubt attracted national and international recognition, pointing out that the non-disruption of academic activities has for several years placed the university as one of the first choice among Nigerian universities.

He noted that the four campus satellite system of the university which is ready for commissioning is the best legacy bequeathed by his administration, saying that it will not only give access to higher education, but will also create employment opportunities as well as spur up other socio-economic activities for the overall benefit of the state.

While urging the newly admitted students to pay more attention on their studies as the primary aim of being on the campus, the VC also warned them against indulging in unproductive ventures such as cultism, examination-malpractices, as well as “sorting” or risk rustification from the university.

The VC however, reiterated the policy of the university to reward hardworking students who excel in their academic performance through automatic employment as a way of encouraging lazy ones and finally to parents to endeavour to be attending a forum of parents/lecturers meetings to enable them monitor and appraise the performance and conduct of their children.

A total number of seven thousand, seven hundred and forty eight (7,748) students matriculated at the event.
