AITEO Semi Finals: Rivers United Stuns Stubborn Khana FC, Advances To State Finals

Rivers United ambushed Khana FC as Nyima Nwagua scored the match winner in a 1-0 victory in the Rivers State AITEO Cup semi-final at the Sharks Stadium on Thursday.

The Stanley Eguma tutored side gave a gritty and disciplined display to set up a final against Police Crime Bursters FC on Wednesday (today) at the same venue.

The Pride of Rivers dominated the early exchanges, pinning Khana FC back and the dominance paid off when Nyima Nwagua produced a neat finish with his head in the 24th minute following a perfect cross from Ebube Duru.

Coach Sam Ledor’s Khana FC side tried to recover and, just when they were beginning to exert some real pressure after the break, Malachi Ohawume came close to producing a sublime finish, racing through his maker but for a fine save by Khana FC goalkeeper Saturday Nwazormi in the 63rd minute.

Khana FC soaked up the pressure in the final stages but never looked like being able to get back into the game as United back four remained solid.

The Pride of Rivers are now one win from securing another Rivers State AITEO Cup title.
