HYPREP Decontaminates More Impacted Sites In Ogoni
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has disclosed that remediation works has been completed on three out of the fifteen impacted sites in Ogoni as recommended by the Assessment Team.
Projects Coordinator of HYPREP, Dr. Ferdinand Giadom who stated this while declaring open a 2-day workshop in Port Harcourt on Thursday, also disclosed that a total of fifty lots have been given out to contractors for immediate work on the Phase 1 batches of the Remediation works.
Dr. Giadom at the workshop on ‘Site Characterization, Remediation and Strategic Framework Development’, said the event is focused on key areas of assessment namely, shoreline remediation, development framework for implementation, as well as sharing experience among stakeholders, to successfully deliver the project recommended by the UNEP Report
He told the audience which included traditional rulers, women and youth leaders from different Ogoni communities that his team has been engaging stakeholders at different levels to ensure a successful and smooth completion of the project.
Highlight of the workshop include an overview of HYPREP remediation project in Ogoniland by the Director of Technical Services, Prof. Philip Shekwolo with keynote Keynote Paper on Remediation Startegy by Prof. Chidi. A. Ibe.
Dr. Eric Gundlach thrilled the audience on the topic: ‘Shoreline Remediation’ while Prof. Giadom Abu led discussion on ‘Bioremediation’.
